Alhaji Rabo Saleh Kareem, the National President of the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN) passed away on April 16th 2021 at his Abuja residence, after a protracted illness.

Accordingly, the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN) condoles with the family of the late President and the entire tourism trade community in Nigeria. Alhaji Rabo will be remembered for his loving personality, tolerance of detractors, genteelness in leadership, camaraderie and go-getting spirit. He was a consummate travel and tourism professional and investor. He died being the Managing Director of All States Travels with office in the prestigious Transcorp Hilton Abuja.

He first became the President of FTAN in June 2017, after winning a landslide victory at the general elections of the federation, and was subsequently re-elected in 2019, for his second and final term. His tenure was due to elapse in July this year 2021. The late FTAN President was previously the Vice-President of the National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies (NANTA) Abuja zone.

During his time as FTAN President, Alhaji Saleh Rabo, accomplished a number of tourism industry developmental milestones including securing a befitting National Secretariat for FTAN in Abuja, within weeks of his election; entrenchment of professional development programmes for practitioners in the tourism and hospitality sectors; relentless advocacy for Nigerian government prioritization of tourism industry’s development; and his re-establishment of FTAN operational presence in each of the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria.

Until his death, Alhaji Rabo, was the Thematic Lead for Tourism and Hospitality in the Nigeria Economic Summit Group (NESG), an influential Board Member of Nigeria Tourism Development Cooperation (NTDC), the Tourism industry Focus Group team lead in the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework and Fiscal Strategy (MTEF) 2050, among other exalted and professional positions he held.

Expectedly, the Federation of Tourism Associations of Nigeria (FTAN) has opened a condolence register at the National Secretariat in Abuja, as well as, in all the six FTAN Zonal Secretariats in Nigeria. Alhaji Rabo has been buried today according to Islamic rites. The Federation calls on practitioners to immortalize Alhaji Saleh Rabo by keep pushing forward the dreams and aspirations he championed for the socio-economic development of Nigeria through the Tourism industry.

FTAN is the umbrella body of Nigeria’s travel, tourism and hospitality trade and professional associations in Nigeria.
